8 Ways To Show Your Career Love
This morning when I pulled up to the Dunkin Donuts drive-thru window and asked if they still had heart-shaped, sprinkled donuts (for my daughters), the friendly staff assured me that they they would be celebrating "love" all month long. In that same spirit, I figured I'd share some tips on how to show your career a little love too.
Invest In Yourself
Always be willing to invest in yourself. Whether it's furthering your education or spending money on some new work clothes, you are well worth it.
Grow Your Network
Professional networking sites aren't limited to just LinkedIn. Sites like Meetup and Let's Lunch provide plenty of opportunities to connect with other professionals and mentors in your industry.
Read More Books
Try reading books from influencers in your industry or books on personal development. Currently I have High Performance Habits, Crushing It and Rise and Grind on my wishlist.
Follow New Influencers
Speaking of influencers, are you following influencers in your industry? I have my go-to influential influencer team like Michael Hyatt, Gary Vaynerchuk, Marie Forleo, Brendon Burchard and others but I'm always interested in finding more.
Find Out What You're Worth
If you're not sure what you should be getting paid, this is a fun exercise. Check out Glassdoor or Salary to find out what someone with your skills, education and background should be earning.
Ask for feedback from your peers
Find two or three trusted co-workers that are familiar with your work (and work ethic). Ask for unbiased feedback on how you're doing and any areas for improvement.
TalK to your boss
Take your feedback session a step further and speak directly to your boss. Encourage consistent, open feedback so you're in the know of your progress, areas for development and where you're shining.
Get a mentor
No matter where you are in your career path, there is something to be gained from having a mentor and they're not as hard to find as you may think. Check out sites like Find a Mentor and SCORE that pairs mentors with mentees.
