The One Thing You Need To Do To Get Unstuck

The One Thing You Need To Do To Get Unstuck

I hear a lot of people talking about feeling stuck.  They don't know what to do, how to get started, where to find resources, inspiration, money or even, what it is they want to do.  The feeling can be overwhelming and I know that I've struggled with these feelings before, too.  There's no shortage of advice on how to get unstuck but the single best tip I've heard and the thing that always works for me is this; just do one thing.  Start with one thing, one action that will move you forward. Maybe it's writing an email, having a difficult conversation, making plans.  Choose one thing you can do right now that will make the biggest impact towards your goals.

This works because instead of being overwhelmed about where to start, it forces you to begin with an immediate action.

Recently, I was feeling stuck around some decisions that needed to be made regarding this blog. Since I started the blog, I was approached by different brands for business opportunities.  Great, right?  Well, it was, except I wasn't sure in what direction I wanted to go with the blog and I didn't want to blindly accept whatever came my way.  I had to get firm on what types of projects I wanted to work on and what things I didn't want to be a part of.  At the time I felt overwhelmed (but blessed to have the options) and didn't know how to approach it.  So, I started with one thing; responding and reaching out to the projects I did want to work on. This simple task gave me the momentum to keep working on things that mattered to me while letting everything else fall to the wayside.

Whenever I feel stuck, which, for me, tends to happen whenever I get overwhelmed, I ask myself, what one thing can I do right now that will have the most impact towards my goal?  And then I go and do it.  Simple.  I'm learning to bring simplicity to my thought processes (and decision-making) and avoiding feelings of overwhelm and being stuck.

What do you do when you're feeling stuck?
